Dont be lonely, get in touch with the English-speaking community quickly by joining one or more of the various clubs and organizations which are out there in the Frankfurt and Rhine-Main area.
The majority of these mostly non-profit-making clubs, both business and social , are run by hardworking, dedicated volunteers.
The following list and descriptions are far from conclusive, but lets start by mentioning some of the largest and most active clubs, where youll be sure to find an activity, an interest group or an event which matches your personal inclinations and where youll quickly feel at home.
The AWCT currently has just over 600 members, about 60% of whom are American citizens and 40% other nationalities, e.g,. German, British, Dutch, Scandinavian, etc. The club is structured into several neighborhood groups (Königstein, Kronberg, Bad Soden, Hofheim, Kelkheim, Frankfurt, Frankfurt South, to name just a few). There are also strong activity and interest groups which offer something for everyone Book Discussion Groups, Bridge, Ceramics Circle, Day Trips, Empty Nesters, Language Learning Groups, Libraries, Quilting, the Tennis League, Travel and many more. The Video Library, has a fabulous selection of videos available for lending out to members at a very reasonable price.
Mothers Corner is an exceptionally strong sub-group which functions in cooperation with the British Club of the Taunus. This club within a club has a whole range of its own activities which are especially suited for members from the pre-natal stage through to parents of teenagers.
The Working Womens Group is also an especially active sub-group which aims to bring together both working and (currently) non-working women who want to network. The meetings give women the chance to meet face-to-face, get to know each other and share their experiences of living and working abroad. In addition to informal gatherings in cozy wine bars, restaurants or beer gardens, depending on the time of year, it also holds presentations by local businesses and further educational seminars, some of which are given by talented members with the right expertise.
A substantial amount of money is raised for charity each year for local charities as well as for the big names like UNICEF - especially through tremendous fund-raising events such as the Christmas Bazaar and the annual Gala Ball.
The AWCT in turn belongs to FAWCO, the Federation of American Womens Club Overseas, which is a large non-profit-making umbrella organization.

At the present time, the BCT has more than 200 members, with a very active, friendly and sociable committee.
It organizes Coffee Mornings, Champagne Breakfasts, Girls Nights Out, Couples Evenings to name just a few. There are also regular activity groups Badminton, Tennis, Folk Art, Patchwork and Quilting, German Conversation classes and others.
The Ceramics Circle, in cooperation with the American Womens Club, is formed from a group of members who share a love and interest in fine porcelain and go on occasional outings to view famous collections and treasures in castles and stately homes (Burg Eltz, Höchst, Schloss Favorite near Baden-Baden, the Westerwald area).
The very popular Mothers Corner is a joint venture with the AWCT, as mentioned above.
The British Club of the Taunus also raises a substantial amount of money for charity each year its biggest fund-raising event of the year is the very traditional British Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes) held close to 5 November. This is a real family event, with a magnificent attendance of around 800 people most recently - no matter whether its a drizzly, foggy November night, everyone ohs and ahs at the fantastic professional firework display.
"We are women of different cultures who work together to promote understanding and tolerance. We have a lot of fun! We attend exciting activities and visit local places of interest. We are members of the Federation of German-American Clubs e.V. We help support the Federation's German-American Youth Program and German-American Student Exchange. We work together to raise funds to support local charities. We make new friends at meetings and special interest groups: Art, Bridge, Cooking, Crafts, Dining in the Rheingau, Hiking, Language Conversation (German, English, French, Spanish), Ladies Night Out, Lunch, Literature, Theater etc.
The German-American Women's Club Wiesbaden e.V. is your passport to a new world of unforgettable experiences. This is a unique opportunity to make friends with Americans, Germans and other nationalities and to share in their cultures."
The Frankfurt Dining Club is a relaxed group for young native
English speakers who live in Frankfurt and enjoy exploring the many
great restaurants that this city has to offer. We are British,
Americans, Australians, Irish, Canadians, New Zealanders, South
Africans, and a few other nationalities too. All of us love meeting
new people. We go for dinner once a month or more. There are
usually about 12 people attending each dinner evening and newcomers
are welcome to join anytime. Membership is free.
As the name implies, AmCham Germany is a large business-oriented club with over 3000 members and is the largest American Chamber of Commerce in Europe. The executive office is located in Frankfurt and there are ten regions throughout the country. AmCham organizes and hosts many large-scale events in Frankfurt with well-known personalities from business and politics. Its most recent speaker was Roland Koch, the Federal Minister of the State of Hessen.
With a series of really interesting company presentations and factory visits, e.g. to the Coca-Cola factory in Liederbach, this networking club belongs to the American Chamber of Commerce and attracts a large attendance to its events. Many of the members are highly dynamic, younger businesspeople who enjoy networking and doing business after hours.
This is a small English-speaking networking club of professional men and women living and/or working in the Frankfurt area, who represent a cross-section of all branches of industry and commerce. The program of events is based on a series of demonstrations, presentations, talks and workshops by leading international companies in Frankfurt combined with visits to libraries, radio and television stations, as well as to the leading banking and financial institutions. One of the most attractive aspects of the GB Business Network is that there is tremendous contact outside the events between the members, who are genuinely active in networking and communicating within the German business and social environment.
Founded by a group of British businessmen in 1964, this small Anglo-German business networking club hosts some interesting events a few times a year. They vary from speaker events to wine-tasting and social evenings. The percentage of female members has increased noticeably in recent years!
It's not exactly a women's club, but rather a non-profit organization with a "mission is to enrich and share the experience of living abroad through literature, humor and the arts, as well as by providing information and education on what it is really like to live in a foreign country and how to cope with the challenges that may come along.
