The Frankfurt and Rhine-Main Area is exceptionally well-served with hospitals and clinics of varying sizes, ranging from those with more than 1,000 beds like the University Clinic in Frankfurt city and the City Hospital in Frankfurt-Höchst, to small-scale private clinics such as St. Josef’s Hospital in Königstein in the Taunus which has just 50 beds. If you live in the Taunus area, the Hochtaunus District Hospital in Bad Homburg and the Main Taunus District Hospitals in Bad Soden and Hofheim all have good reputations.
In recent years, many of them have tended to specialise on particular fields of medicine. So you may find yourself being referred by your family doctor to Höchst if you have orthopaedic problems, to Hofheim for hand and microsurgery, to the Maingau hospital in Frankfurt city for ENT problems, and so on. The St.-Elisabethen Hospital in Frankfurt-Ginnheim, St. Marien Hospital in Frankfurt-Nordend and the University Clinic in Frankfurt city as well as the Hospital in Sachsenhausen to name just a few, all have very modern maternity departments.
